andsome Posted November 7, 2006 Report Share Posted November 7, 2006 My printer packed up so I uninstalled it and installed a new Epson Stylus Photo R340. Everything is fine, but I am getting what I would consider to be an unusual happening with it. There is a small permanent icon in the bottom right hand corner which if I hover over it, it displays as Epson R340. Those of you who use a plug in hard drive will be aware of the small icon which appears when the device is switched on, which if you hover over it, says Safely remove hardware. When I switch on this printer this icon appears, and in my computer is shown as a removable hard drive. If I click on the safely remove hardware icon it shows as a USB mass storage device, the same as the removable hard drive has always done. If I switch on the removable hard drive this is now demoted to Drive H, and the printer has taken over as Drive G.I am getting no problems and everything works fine. I am however very puzzled. I am however very puzzled.The following are a couple of replys on the other place, and sound as though they make sense.This Icon is probably refering to the built in memory card reader on the printer.Confirming Steve's commentThe printer has a camera media card reader built inRight hand side of the body under a hinged flap.That is what this is referring to.The printer will also operate independent of the computer for photo printing- but will only print images as on the card - no or very little correction /manipulation possible. Does the drive disappear if you take the card out?I have never put a card into the printer, I only bought it on Monday. I have however used the display screen and looked at all the options, so that may have activated things. If I click onto the USB storage icon in the system tray and select to stop it, the icon disappears but the printer does not disable, so I can only conclude that the storage device only has switched off until such time as I turn off and re-turn on the printer, or put a card into it. I am very impressed with the printer so far. I posted another thread offering my cartridges for the 830 series, but so far no reply, I can only conclude that most people are now using printers like the 340, that uses multiple colour cartridges. He was extremely unhelpful and seemed to be hurrying me. He only had the display model in stock, so fetched the box for it out of the back of the shop. When it was all packed up he could only see one pack of cartridges instead of two, so he took one from display, but the contents were slightly different to those in the box, so he took a further pack to ensure that I got all six inks, plus of course the extras. When I got home I found that the box contained the original two packs, so I now have a full set of replacements. Had he been more helpful, I would have returned the two from display on my next visit to the town, as it is my attitude is bugger him. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
