Billy Posted November 9, 2006 Report Share Posted November 9, 2006 I did a search first, and couldn't find anything.I'm trying to intall an HP Laserjet 1020 on my Dell Dimension 2400. It can't seem to install the driver for it. When I go in to the Device Manager and use the Install Wizard, it says no drivers found. I contacted HP and they said my computer is not installing USB printer support and to contact Dell. Dell had me download a driver chipset and that didn't work. I tried that download and it didn't do anything.The HP tech person said my computer isn't installing USB printing support and that a file might be corrupted. dadyassa Posted November 9, 2006 Report Share Posted November 9, 2006 Why are you trying to install it through device manager ?Read the instructions carefully, most modern printers need the software installed first, then it tells you when to connect the printer and not before. Billy Posted November 9, 2006 Author Report Share Posted November 9, 2006 I am installing it with the software. I'm doing it exactly as the cd says to. I've already installed this exact model on another computer at work with no problem. Apparently on this computer there is a corrupt inf file or something that is preventing the USB printer driver from installing. In the Device Manager it will show the Lasejet 1020, but it shows no driver for it. HP Tech support told me the computer is not installing USB printing support. I've tried every way I can think of to put the driver on, and Dell had me download some driver chipset and that didn't work.Any other ideas? (It's not the Dell one.)I also found 4 Usbmom.dll files, one apparently downloaded from Dell, and one of them is blue too. What is a sfc/scannow ?? What does it do?What do I do next?Thanks! Billy Posted November 10, 2006 Author Report Share Posted November 10, 2006 Well, I ran the sfc /scannow and it did it's scan, and when it was done, that was it. No report, nothing. It was just done. Alan2273 Posted November 10, 2006 Report Share Posted November 10, 2006 Billy, I have two Usbprint files and 4 Usbmon.dll files but non of them are in Program files.They are Windows driver files.If sfc /scannow has not solved the problem, you could try a repair install.This guide from Powerless is excellent and I have used it and it works.http://forums.windowsforum.org/index.php?showtopic=10455Have you got an XP full disk or a recovery disk, as I am not sure if the repair install can be done from a recovery disk.It might be worth starting another thread to see if you can install these two drivers of a disk.
