XP's built-in CD Burner

Though it doesn't bother me unduly as I have Nero installed and that works without any trouble, if I try to write to a CD using XP's built-in burner, the wizard tells me that no CD-R has been inserted and so won't go any further. I've tried taking the CD out, then putting it back in again but it still won't recognise it.

I should add that I have been using this batch of CD's for a long time even though they were cheapies from a computer fair without any bother until now. I have also tried much newer ones, better brand name CD's, no difference. I might also add that it is exactly the same with DVD discs. But, as I said, there is no problem when I use Nero, the discs are recognised and burnt, I just don't like it when something that has previously worked perfectly well suddenly stops for no reason I can find.

Any ideas? As usual, they will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your very swift replies.

As I said, it don't really bother me, its just that it was sometimes quicker using that instead of going through the Nero menu. And I only used it for anything of little to no importance anyhow. I'll follow your advice, stick with Nero in future and forget the XP version.
