Ren Posted November 11, 2006 Report Share Posted November 11, 2006 i formatted the c drive and left the other partitions intact. now i want to re-install xp pro but everytime i boot up i get boot from cd and i press a key, then missing ntldr comes up and it tells me to control, alt delete.i have tried 5-6 times and it just wont let me boot to the cd and start the installation. any ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks, Ren Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

A quick format does not remove information from a disk, it merely prevents normal access. Even a full format can leave residual data behind in hidden partitions.In the past I have had lots of difficulties re-installing WXP on to disks that have previously been used.Nowadays, to avoid problems and frustration, I will only install a Windows operating system on to a virgin (previously unused and unformatted) hard disk.
