tyberion86 Posted December 7, 2006 Report Share Posted December 7, 2006 My desktop computer is now constantly nagging me about how my copy of windows xp pro is not genuine. i recently bought a laptop on Ebay with a valid copy of winxp pro. i am planning to put linux on the laptop and am wondering (I have a feeling of futility as i type this) if it is somehow possible for me to take the genuine copy of windows on my laptop and somehow apply it to my desktop to make it legit.Any ideas? -pops- Posted December 7, 2006 Report Share Posted December 7, 2006 If you have a full version of Windows XP - not OEM or a version tied to the laptop then a transfer is legal. I doubt, though, under the circumstances you describe, that you have a "full" version of the O/S and you will not be able to move it and get it operating after the 30 days period of grace for activation - if, indeed, you will be able to get it going at all.
