robj
I downloaded a background but cannot see how to remove. It is not showing up in the list when I go to background tab under "Appearances" in Control Panel.Any offers please?
-pops-
Try this:RIGHT click a blank area of the desktop and click Properties -> Desktop and you should see a selection of available wallpapers. Change to whatever suits you. Note this is different to the "Appearance" tab.
robj
Thanks, Pops, for reply - but it didn't work. Whatever other background I choose does not come up; the downloaded one remains although it is not showing in the list. Seems that I will have to remove it before using another; any idea what its location is likely to be apart from the d/top?
Scarecrow Man
There is a problem I've noticed with jpeg and bmp backgrounds. Apparently one of them uses Active Desktop and overlays anything else you select. Or at least this is what I think. Someone may be able to explain it better. What I do to fix it, is set the background to None. Press Apply. Select a new background, and press Apply again. cozofdeath
Windows has always done that for some reason. It will keep the old background for a brief time before putting on the new one at startup. It probably has to do with a registry or file setting that has a last used setting in case their are no backgrounds at the moment. When I was in high school me and some friends put on a "mature" background, if you know what I mean, on the schools computer then selected another one so we wouldn't get yelled at again. But after that day every time that computer would startup the person sitting at it would freak out when it came on for that tiny second. Is this a picture file or a program that installs a background?
