bembaman
I had the 'blue screen of death' occur recently on several occasions, different messages.I backed everything up and got a new hard drive. However, I am trying to install XP SP2 and have encountered a problem. The set up goes fine and I get as far as installng the installation files to the installation folders (ie the bit where the yellow installation bar reaches 100%) The computer then restarts, which I think is normal, but then when it re-starts it just goes back to booting off the CD as a completely fresh installation and reaches the same point again and restarts etc. I am going round in circles.Anyone got the answer for this, and is my initial assumption that it is hardware related wrong? cozofdeath
The problem of it restarting like that doesn't seem like a hardware problem to me. If you were getting blue screens when you were installing then maybe. Have you tried, when it restarts, to take out the cd and see if it reads off the hard drive? AlanHo
Are you removing the XP CD from the cd drive when it reboots - otherwise it could reboot from the CD all over again instead of from the hard drive.
bembaman
Tried both of those ideas, but itsimply asks me to insert a bootable disk into the CD drive and boot from there.
andsome
Obviously something wrong. When I reinstall Windows, I am always told that I need to restart the computer at the very end of the installation. At this point I remove the CD and tell the machine to reboot, and it does so from the hard drive.
jason.b.c
Sounds like maybe the boot loader isn't being installed correctly , Is there an option to "repair" .?
