Hi Guys, a bit of advice please.

I have located a new M.B. an AMD K7S8XE+ and need to change my naff one.

The processor is an AMDK7 Athlon XP2600, can I change it complete or will I have to take the heatsink off first and rebed it on or can I take them off together and fit on new M.B.?

TIA john

If it will come off as a complete unit, I would do it that way - at least then you now you have an efficient cooling system for the CPU and no danger of disturbing things or getting muck where it shouldn't be.

Do give it a good clean, though while you have it out.

Thanks pops, glad to hear that as getting thermal paste here could be a laugh, I would probably end up with "no more nails" or similar :D

Hola, its me again with a little problem.

Got it all working, set time etc in bios, but this morning it hung on the loadup.

" CMOS/GPNV checksum bad

Press F1 to load default. "

Did this and it loaded ok, but then AVG said the time and date was set to before the latest update.

Its not holding the bios setting, any ideas ?

Is it the battery ?

TIA john

CMOS bad checksum combined with a failure of the clock is a good indicator that the battery needs replacement.

I have had two new motherboards in the past where the battery didn't function and I've also had new batteries that didn't function. Not very reliable, these button cells.
