Scarecrow Man
You may have to use a driver supplied by the manufacturer of your motherboard, before installing a SATA drive. Also, when the drive is installed, go into disk managment (Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management) and make sure the SATA drive shows up. If it does, make sure it is formatted.
trackrat
Did your motherboard driver disk or floppy disk have a SATA driver on it?.When you go into device manager are there any red or yellow marks showing?.How old is your motherboard(or computer), as up till about twelve months ago some motherboards still required SATA drivers to be installed from a floppy while you were installing the XP operating system. damuthrl50
Device manager shows teh SATA controller is disabled, code 22, so when it is enabled that is when I get the blue screen of death.Cant seem to find my motherboard disc and the website has Raid Drivers, I assume they are different than SATA drivers. It also is NOT showing up under disk management even tho my SATA utility detects it. Also, my system was put together about 3 yrs ago with no floppy. I really dont know what to do..I do appreciate your help guys.
damuthrl50
New thought...I was looking under control panel and noticed there was a Silicon Image SATA COntroller listed...I opened it and saw that there was in fact no controller available. So how would one install a new SATA controller? My mobo driver disk says that when you plug in the HD it should recognize the new hardware and ask for drivers...thats not the case here. nellie2
What is the make of your drive?
damuthrl50
The drive is a WD CAviar 160gig...the only thing I have goin for me right now is that the mobo supplies sata raid utility recognizes teh drive when it is plugged in and doesnt when it is unplugged. Windows does not see it and crashes everytime I enable the sata controller under device manager. I checked the scsi drivers in the system folder against the mobo supplied updated drivers....windows version were newer. Would it hurt to overwrite with older files??? my next step so thanks for any help.
nellie2
The best place to start is always the manufacturers website! I found this in the list of FAQ's for that model, there are also links to download drivers and software,
