jango
My kids computer were infected with virus for a while as there was no any anti-virus on it. Today when they turned on the computer it didn't come up and it was all black ! A friend of mine suggested the hard drive is dead. Can this be the case? If so is it easy to replace it with another hard drive or i need to be expert? How do i do this. Many thanks
-pops-
A virus shouldn't cause the "death" of a hard drive but, if the computer appears to be dead then it may be that it needs the operating system needs re-installing or repairing. Does it give a beep noise when it is first switched on?Can you give us some more details of the machine, please?

andsome
Are you sure that it isn't the monitor? Can you try someone else's?
jason.b.c
Is the monitor plugged in..? ( i know that is a stupid question )Do you see an orange or green light on the front..?? Is it lit..?
Alexis Blaze
when u turn on the computer, how many beep you here? (how many long and short one) because the beep sound can tell you what is the problem with your computer, it is called beep code...when you say it's all black, does it doesn't even show the bios loading or it goes black after the bios was loaded and windows is booting? if it doesn't even show the bios loading, then most likely it is your monitor that's broken..Try to unplug your harddisk and put it as a slave in someone else computer just to check if it is readable or broken.. if the hard disk is still fine

Scarecrow Man
Looks as if it is trying to boot from LAN.Have you set the Hard Drive as the first boot device in the BIOS?
