Cougie Posted January 26, 2007 Report Share Posted January 26, 2007 Are Windows XP OEM discs qualified for installing Vista upgrade versions onto an EMPTY computer?My situation: I am using "Windows XP Home OEM"I want to get a NEW computer and get "Vista Home Premium (Academic Upgrade)".If I try to install Windows Vista (Academic Upgrade) onto my new computer,it will prompt me to insert a disc to prove I have a previous version of Windows right?Will my Windows XP Home OEM disc qualify??? It is used by a PC manufacturer to be installed on 1 machine, 1 time. It can be installed again but it must first be uninstalled from the other PC. It cannot be used as an upgrade disc. y2khardtop Posted February 16, 2007 Report Share Posted February 16, 2007 as I understand it, you actually have to have Windows XP or 2000 INSTALLED to do the upgrade, not just have the disc. I don't know if, once verified, you can wipe the system clean and do a clean install.My info is based only on listening to Leo the Tech guy (Leo Laporte) and other podcasts.
