nellie2
Combofix is a specialised cleaning tool used by malware fighters to help clean up infected computers. It has been a very effective and useful tool. However it has come to the developers attention that if Combofix is used on a computer where a specific rootkit is present then it will cause Combofix to recursively delete all files from the system drive. As there is no way of knowing that the rootkit is present until Combofix is run, it has been pulled until further notice, all official download mirrors have been taken down, if you have the tool saved on your system then please delete it. andsome
I don't have Combofix, and have never heard of it, but what root kit would be involved and how would we be likely to have picked it up? Is there any way that we would know we were infected?
nellie2
I do know about this rootkit but don't want to publicise any information at the minute. I wouldn't worry andsome... I doubt very much if you have it, you always keep a tight shipJust a quick edit as I don't want to bump the thread.Combofix is back for now.. but always make sure you get expert advice before using it.
