Coreper Posted February 25, 2007 Report Share Posted February 25, 2007 ive been having this annoying problem lately:my "My Music" [named Mijn Muziek here = Dutch] folder icon changes to a blank folder icon [the empty, default, boring folder icon]i change this by using Folder Icon Changerthen the icon stays good for a whilethe time that the icon is normal is unspecified, and will variable: sometimes it is short, sometimes it is very longthis problem isnt necessary for my computer to stays working properly, but since i care very much about graphic looks, i find i very annoyinghow can i make the folder icon stay the music folder icon, without having to change it every time?note: i use the English version of WMP 11 [version 11.0.5721.5145]note: sometimes when i change the icon with FIC, it says that the folder icon cant be changed, but it DOES change the folder icon!note: i do not want to use another folder to store my music in Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

cozofdeath Posted February 26, 2007 Report Share Posted February 26, 2007 The hidden Desktop.ini file inside of the My Music folder may be why this is happening. You could try opening it and changing somethings, specifically the stuff under the [.ShellClassInfo] line. It could also just be the name of the folder signaling the change via the registry. Coreper Posted February 26, 2007 Author Report Share Posted February 26, 2007 @Pat: it isnt an error like that: the icon doesnt get different, but the folder propertiesill explain:if you look at the properties of a folder in My Documents, you can normally see 3 tabs: General, Sharing, and another one [forgot the name, its "Aanpassen" in Dutch]in the third tab, you can change the folder type and iconBUT, i cant see this on my My Music folder! [never, not even after adjusting the icon]i tried making a new My Music folder, transferring all the files and deleting the old My Music folder, but that didnt workplease help@cozofdeath: yes, i noticed that: the desktop.ini file ISNT there when the icon is wrong!after changing the icon, a new file appears, and the content of it is this:[.Shellclassinfo]Iconfile=C:\WINDOWS\system32\shell32.dllIconindex= 128as you can see, this codes for the folder iconits filename is, ofcourse, desktop.iniyou might also find some important information in the piece i typed for Pat [above] Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

There are many things in the registry that correspond with this also. Maybe thats where the conflict is? When I do a text search in the registry editor for My Music I get some good info. You can make sure folder paths are correct this way. Coreper Posted February 26, 2007 Author Report Share Posted February 26, 2007 why would there be something wrong about the folder paths?you know, i talking about the folder which is located in My Documents [not a shortcut or something!]i didnt see any difference between the folder after changing the content from your destop.ini file to mine...btw: i noticed that the other My Documents folders didnt include a desktop.ini file! cozofdeath Posted February 26, 2007 Report Share Posted February 26, 2007 I was just thinking maybe if a folder path was off or misspelled in some way that Windows wouldn't consider it a special shell folder and that it would get an regular folder icon. Similar to if you were to move it into a different directory or hard drive and if it lost its icon. If you look through the registry there will only be a couple of keys for My Music. One is the shell folder path, another looks maybe like an icon path. Many registry programs like the one a posted check for things like this in the registry.Sorry I'm running out of ideas. Coreper Posted March 10, 2007 Author Report Share Posted March 10, 2007 the icon cache refresh doesnt workand the tool you gave is not helping: it doesnt allow me to repair my music folder icon...and the sfc /scannow command wouldnt have worked neither, because i use Xpize: it almost changed all my system files...
