jlg234 Posted March 9, 2007 Report Share Posted March 9, 2007 XP Home Sp1/Sp2 - Does Windows Updates allow downloading and saving your updates in a location of your choosing on your harddrive before installing them? Over the last several years I have had to re-load XP. I am tired of having to re-download all the updates via "Windows Updates". I would like to offload them to CD/DVD for future installs. I don't even know where Windows Update put them B 4 installation and whether they can be re-installed if offloaded to another location for archiving purposes.I know I can download individual updates from M/S but I want Windows Update to identify what I need - then download - save - install.I searched this forum but was unable to find if someone else had this request. But to the best of my knowledge, WindowsUpdate does not keep the original updates, only the uninstallers. (In C:\Windows\NtUninstallKB......)I think, especially if you have an older XP installation, there may be updates that are present in your current installation, but no longer needed because they have been corrected by later updates.What is your reason for your question - very slow connection? All run XP and are networked together and share a router to the Internet. Even with a firewall and AV software someone occasionally invites a virus through or installs a piece of software that the unit finds hard to diegest then I am left to clean it up (if I can). If I can't then I do a complete re-install from scratch. With these being older XP disks (some with Sp1 some W/O Sp1) it becomes quite a lengthy process. I have an generic Sp2 disk that came from M/S with my 5th PC purchase (Compaq Laptop R3210CA). Do I have to be concerned about applying Sp1 if I have an Sp2 disk to apply. Does Sp2 cover all of Sp1's fixes/enhancements plus more?What you have pointed me to looks very inviting and may save me quite a bit of time if I am successful at doing it. I guess I will have to create one for each unit as they have different Keys or can I just create one O/S disk and apply the key that belongs to the PC being restored?I make a practice of partioning the drives into C: (O/S) D: 3rd party Program Installs and E: Data (Pictures, music, Doc's & Internet software downloads as well a the location for Favorites, My Documents, Outlook's mail store and WAB). Boris Posted March 9, 2007 Report Share Posted March 9, 2007 I use Autopatcher http://www.autopatcher.com/whatsautopatcher/(with its latest full Windows release + its subsequent updates of Windows which I've burnt to CD) to do re-installs on all my friend's PC's when necessary after they've had malware problems. Similarly - I add all the anti-malware tools and related latest updates so that when they re-connect to the net, they are then already as protected as possible. :) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
