Nic Posted March 11, 2007 Report Share Posted March 11, 2007 I have created the 6 diskettes required for installing windows from scratch on a clean machine. I have the Windows CD but it won't boot from it (that's why I created the boot disks). When booting from the diskettes, the first one is read fine, then it asks for the second one. I put the second one in but after a minute or so, it tells me again to insert disk 2. I have tried recreating the disks and have tried different disks for Disk 2. No matter what I do, it won't recognize disk 2. Originally, I used the boot disks for Windows XP (plain, no SP1 or SP2). Those loaded fine and I was able to partition the hard drive. But when it got through disk 6 and tried to continue from the CD, I got this error: The following value in .SIF value 0 on the line in section [sourceDisksFiles] in SP1. That's when I figured out I needed the boot disks for XP SP1.If I try booting directly from the CD, I get the error: NTLDR missing.Help!!!ThanksNic Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

doug Posted March 11, 2007 Report Share Posted March 11, 2007 I presume that you are at the desperate stage and are re-installing from scratch, trust you have recent back-ups! As I said before, I tried using the XP SP2 boot disks and I have the same problem as with XP SP1 boot disks. I cannot get past disk 2. That disk is not recognized. Thanks. doug Posted March 11, 2007 Report Share Posted March 11, 2007 As you can access the internet why not do a fresh install of XP then go to M$ and download SP2, or even download SP2 and burn to disc the go through the re-install process operations. Scarecrow Man Posted March 12, 2007 Report Share Posted March 12, 2007 NTLDR is missing refers to the Hard Disk. Not the CD. It seems as though it is bypassing the CD boot all together. The reason your floppy install is not working is probably because of a bad disk. Try using a set of new disks.If you are still having errors reading the CD, I have found that some newer DVD or CD drives do not read the XP install disc properly.
