Requiem Posted April 3, 2007 Report Share Posted April 3, 2007 I tried to dual boot a version of Linux and Windows XP together. I ended up screwing my entire computer up. I can't run Windows any more nor can I run the version of Linux which I tried to install. When I try to re install I get an error about one of my paritions. I would focus on creating a nt boot disc or using your Linux cd to retrieve that product key then I would reinstall xp, then Linux. Many times the product keys are on the side/bottom of the computer itself. Just in case you didn't know. There are really good partitioning tools out there also. trackrat Posted April 4, 2007 Report Share Posted April 4, 2007 GParted is as good as partition manager and it is free.http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.p...lease_id=496385Also if you have the XP disk have you tried to repair the Master Boot Record MBR.If you have Windows NT / 2000 / XP, you can boot from startup floppy disks or CD-ROM, choose repair option during setup, and run Recovery Console. Requiem Posted April 5, 2007 Author Report Share Posted April 5, 2007 I have the product key on my laptop for Windows Media edition. I uninstalled that and installed XP. Alan2273 Posted April 10, 2007 Report Share Posted April 10, 2007 Boot from the windows XP CD, press the "R" key in the setup in order to start the restoration console. Select your windows XP installation from the list, and enter the administrator password.( if you have not set an administrator password just press the enter button.)Enter the command: "FIXMBR" (without the quotes) at the input prompt and confirm the next question with a "Y" (without the quotes).
