Problems Merging Registry Entries

Recommended Posts

Hi all ;),

I am having trouble 'merging' registry entries into my registry. It has been happening a while now and I thought it was time I asked for some help or advise?

When I try to 'merge' a file it opens in notepad and just won't 'merge'. I have been looking in the folder options on my comp but don't know the correct way to set it up.

In the settings for merging it says "NOTEPAD.EXE %1" and what I need to know is what to change this setting to so that it will 'merge'?

ThanX in advance

Any help or advise most welcome ;)

Hi mark2,

They are .reg files that I am having trouble with. I have installed several in the past to change registry settings etc. When I have used them in the past I have either double clicked them or right clicked and selected 'merge' to import them into the registry. Now they just open in notepad whatever I do?

I have upped a jpeg of the settings from Folder Options and what I wanted to know is what to set the 'merge' setting to so it will merge and not open in notepad?

I am thinking along the lines of adding "REGEDIT.EXE %1" where the "NOTEPAD.EXE %1" is in the settings but I am not sure if this is right? It has been since using AutoPatcher to update my system that the notepad thing has been there...So what do you think or know about this setting? Can anyone get their settings up and compare it to mine?

ThanX in advance ;)

---> To get to it goto Control Panel and double click "Folder Options"---> Click the "File Types" tab and ,when it loads up, scroll down to "REG Registration Entries" ---> Highlight this with one left click and select "Advanced" tab at the bottom ---> Click the "merge" word once and select the "Edit..." button on the right ---> This is where I got the piccy on mine from... If yours is different to mine and you are not having problems with .reg files like me then please let me know what yours says in the boxes.

ThanX in advance ;)

ps. Tried editing the above for this but it said I didn't have permission? Sorry for the extra post.
