Irene
When I ran my new A-Squared, it found an Heuristic Dialer in....C:\Program Files\Sonly\VAIO Action Setup\bin\SeMlChk.exeI have quarantined it for the time being. Is this something I need to remove? When I googled it, there were entries which said that it may not be a real problem, but something actually required by my system. cozofdeath
In my opinion its very likely its nothing to worry about. One reason is because it was detected in a heuristic scan, not that it doesn't mean its bad but theres more of a chance of false positives. Another because of what directory its in and its not to uncommon for a program to request some kind of dialing info. But if theres no harm in quarantining it then its better to be safe then sorry. I once got a call from a friend desperately needing my help in removing a dialer. This was a long time ago, and his mom got a huge phone bill and he was in big trouble until he figured out what was going on. He looked so worried when I showed up but his mom seemed to like that it was gone. Of course the numbers that the dialer was calling apparently didn't help the situation either. Needless to say I could tell he was embarrassed.
