speed_freak_uk Posted April 30, 2007 Report Share Posted April 30, 2007 Anyone know of any negatives against buying a used copy of windows xp, when I say copy i mean a proper copy but just second hand.If someone has already used the keycode would i still be able to use it without any issues. -pops- Posted April 30, 2007 Report Share Posted April 30, 2007 As a general rule, one copy of WXP for one computer. If the XP disk is OEM then the key is NOT transferable to another machine. With a full version of WXP it may be transferable under some circumstances - the main one being that it has been removed from the original computer and Microsoft have been told this. The normal situation then is that a new Product Key is issued and the old one disqualified meaning that if the old one continues to be used, it becomes an illegal copy, any attempts at updates fail and the life of the installation is limited.
