Raddy Posted May 17, 2007 Report Share Posted May 17, 2007 I'm trying to rename a folder on my storage hard drive from "My Shared Folder" to just "My Media". Everytime I do, I get an error, saying "Folder is currently in use or write-protected...etc." The only program that I could think of that uses that folder is my Filezilla server, but I shut it down and still got the message. I can rename any of the subfolders and any of the folders on the same level as My Shared Folder. Can anyone think of another reason this would happen? I tried to delete it from the left side pane, and it refused. The reason: because the folder was open - by Windows Explorer itself!When I went up one folder higher - the folder to delete was now on the right pane - it deleted without an incident.If this is not your problem, then try to shut down all non-essential processes before attempting again. Also heres an interesting thing I seen about a week or two ago when looking up something about Vista.--New Vista featureIn case a file is in use by another application, Windows Explorer informs users to close the application and retry the file operation. Also, a new interface 'IFileIsInUse' is introduced into the API which developers can use to let other applications switch to the main window of the application that has the file open or simply close the file from the "File In Use" dialog. [3] If the running application exposes these operations by means of the IFileInUse interface, Windows Explorer, upon encountering a locked file, allows the user to close the file or switch to the application from the dialog box itself.
