To brie , or not to brie

A brie spread aimed at shoppers who do not like the rind of the cheese is set to launch in the UK.

Called Creme de Brie, it contains 50% cheese mixed with added milk, water and salt.

French cheese brand Coeur de Lyon said the launch followed a poll of 2,526 UK adults which showed that 31% of cheese eaters cut the white rind off brie.

heh ....for me..the best bit is the rind.!............................ and whats with the 50% additives ? ....Its like someone on the Coeur board has suddenly discovered that there is a cheese spread market outside of France (decades behind everyone else )

If you get one of those small pots of cheese like Chaumes (Stainsburys and Tesco's .... wood veneer packing, not plastic wrap)

pop it is the microwave for a quick zap , and its instant fondue dip to dunk your jacobs in ....

like mine with a dollop of blackcurrent comporte on top

or if Im really up for it .... and with a good beer in hand ..... Muriel's homemade chilli shallots chopped ontop ...ruuph !

If your local deli/farmers market has any of her pickles ..buy one and try it...Its expensive , but the flavour is outstanding ..

If you like your Chaumes/Camembert done in the oven, try it accompanied by some of the Lavender preserve that's on sale in Tesco at the moment. - It's a sort of apple jelly with lavender flower in it.

The preserve is very good and I'm told it is excellent with cheese cooked in its box.

To anyone trying the cheese cooked in a box - remove the waxed paper before cooking.

If I buy Brie, it has to be Dorset Brie. Far superior to the French stuff. :D
