Spaz
Not sure if this has been covered, but it would help for future searches for those that are interested in displaying IE7 on the desktop without creating a shortcut.1. Click Start, Run.2. Type "regedit.exe" (Without quotes).3. Navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel 4. In the right hand pane, double-click {871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D} key.5. Enter dword value as 0 to enable the Internet Explorer icon on the Desktop. djohn
Yep, your quick step is fine for XP, its the way I do it and use the same routine for a couple of other Icons as well but does it work for other versions of windows? :)
AlanHo
How about:Right click your desktopGo to settingsClick the tap "desktop settings"click the button "customize your desktop"click the checkbox "show internet explorer on the desktop"press OKpress OK:-)This topic was posted in the Vista section - but your method will not work with Vista. As DJohn surmised - it appears to be restricted to XP
Staff
What a mess! Something that worked in XP does not work in Vista, not new.Fortunately I use Firefox.Staff.

mcb2001
guys, i just reply to alot of posts, as you might have seen...If i dont always see that its the vista or xp section being used, is a human fault...But if you go to:control panelpersonal settingsand then look at the right side, there will be a task called something like "change desktop icons".In there isn't ANY IE7, and thats is because the EU made a lawsuit against Microsoft - and won.And a part of that lawsuit was that IE shouldn't be a standard part of the OS, but a stand-alone program. This applies for XP mediacenter as well as Vista. So once again, sry about the small mistake, and good finding... Spaz
lol I wasnt being mean, dont be sorry either. Good info you got there, but I would recommend reading the material before posting. It can help prevent confusion or madness even :)I know it becomes a habit of posting to threads, I do it all the time (automotive forums rx7club.com/evolutionm.net) But yea, thanks and have a good one :D
