Not sure if this has been covered, but it would help for future searches for those that are interested in displaying IE7 on the desktop without creating a shortcut.

1. Click Start, Run.

2. Type "regedit.exe" (Without quotes).

3. Navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel

4. In the right hand pane, double-click {871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D} key.

5. Enter dword value as 0 to enable the Internet Explorer icon on the Desktop.

This topic was posted in the Vista section - but your method will not work with Vista.

As DJohn surmised - it appears to be restricted to XP

Give it a shot, show me screen caps that Windows Vista providing that feature. I've only seen Window XP machines capable of that.

guys, i just reply to alot of posts, as you might have seen...

If i dont always see that its the vista or xp section being used, is a human fault...

But if you go to:

control panel

personal settings

and then look at the right side, there will be a task called something like "change desktop icons".

In there isn't ANY IE7, and thats is because the EU made a lawsuit against Microsoft - and won.

And a part of that lawsuit was that IE shouldn't be a standard part of the OS, but a stand-alone program.

This applies for XP mediacenter as well as Vista.

So once again, sry about the small mistake, and good finding...

lol I wasnt being mean, dont be sorry either. Good info you got there, but I would recommend reading the material before posting. It can help prevent confusion or madness even :)

I know it becomes a habit of posting to threads, I do it all the time (automotive forums rx7club.com/evolutionm.net) But yea, thanks and have a good one :D
