Guest moon
Hermit, your site asked me to disable my pop-up killer. Not a good inducement for me, no matter how good the site might have been,
Redhat
Popup thing aint cool. Are mature teenagers allowed to go, or just over 18s?
Electric Hermit
moonIt's a ProBoards thing over which I have no control. Understandable really. It is the advertising that pays the bills! It is not a major hardship. I visit a lot of ProBoards sites and have never been troubled by pop-ups. I use Opera 7.11. Electric Hermit
RedhatThe pop-up thing looks worse than it is. Some things we just have to live with. The important word is 'mature'. Many teenagers of my acquaintance could give guidance in this area to those professing to be 'adults'.
Guest moon
Without wanting to get your goat, hermit, a site that professes intellectual content must first address its own platform. Exposing one's members to unsolicited advertising does not instill confidence in the Netwizardry of the site's owners. Perhaps they're with the wrong hosts ? Electric Hermit
moonSorry! But I do not see this as a major issue. I recognise that pop-ups are a fact of internet life and take sensible measures to deal with them. I tend to assume that others will do the same. Guest moon
Hermit, unsolicited advertising is the major scourge of the Internet, worse I contest than black hacking or viruses. I visit another Pro-Boards site on a daily basis wherein we take it in turns to pay to have pop-ups turned off. This is because the terms of use of Pro-Boards prohibit the running of pop-up killers. No worries, like you I run Opera, but many don't. In the struggle for a free Internet, companies such as Pro-Boards are the realm of gullible amateurs and I'm surprised at your choice. So, thankyou for the invitation, but no, the basic premise of your location holds no interest for me.
Electric Hermit
moon"... thankyou for the invitation, but no ..."As you wish. I reckon I can get by quite nicely without the discourtesy of being referred to as a "gullible amateur" by someone who knows absolutely nothing of my abilties far less my circumstances and priorities. andsome
Had a quick look, but in all honesty I just do not have enough spare time to contribute to any more forums. It already takes up a couple of hours a day looking gorgeous on this forum, plus the odd visit to PCA.

Tankus
I must admit though , this is the first site that I've ever been to that can detect that I use a pop up stopper , and can bypass it.....Im not to overly bothered , but if this does become more common it could get very irritating.. Electric Hermit
TankusThere are ways of dealing with it. And if it does become more widely used, someone will come up with a 'solution'. Isn't it ever so?
