i'm looking for a way to do batch editing on mp3 files: change the mp3 tag

what it want to happen:

Open MP3 Tags [artist, title, etc.]

goto artist string

IF " feat." or " ft." is there DO:

select " feat"/" ft." end continue selection untill the selection reaches the end of the line/string

cut the selection

paste the selection in the title string

save

are there programs which can do this? [such detailed batch editing]

i do know a program called File Renamer which i really love for editing file names

too bad it doesnt support changing mp3 tags

so now you know for what kind of program i am looking for

I had the same problem a while ago when i was trying to organize allll my mp3s with some kind of standard name involving use of the tags. I got a hld of Tag & Rename 3.1 which is a GREAT program for what you want. Not to mention that if you have an album of mp3s you can search the CDDB online through the program and it will apply the tags to all of the mp3z you want, and you can selectively choose which fields to apply (artist, title, genre, comment, label, etc) trust me you will like this program... my method:

search for online CDDB tag (with click of button), select fields i want to apply to tag, select which tags i want included in the renaming (in any order i want) then click rename. TADA!! i usually put the featured artists in the song at the end, because on smaller displays in cars, mp3 players, etc i usually like to know the main artist and title BEFORE all the people it features. For example, if i have a directory of songs by one specific artist, then as the scroll across the screen i want to see Artist Name - Song Title ft Person X , Person Y, etc... NOT Artist ft Person X, Person Y, Person Z - Song Title. But those specs are up to you. not to mention if ou have an mp3 collection you should get a hold of the prog building NFOs. When you rip your cds to your comp they may not always remain as pure as you ripped them to be over time on a comp. After a clean rip onto your comp, create a sfv file with all the songs fromt he album included in it. This creates a very small sfv file included in the directory that stores the information about the PERFECTLY RIPPED mp3s you just created. moving the directory of songs [album] around on your computer may damage the mp3s little by little. It helps to keep you informed of this. all you do it click the small sfv file you created after the properly ripped files and it will check them. just dont change the name of the files after you create the sfv... you ill have to create a new sfv after you do that... but with the names applied after properly tagged, you shouldnt have that prob... Sorry for the long answer, hope i helped.... I am sure you can tel l that i ripped all my cds to mp3 already... i have over 200Gb of albums i ripped.. by the way, last note, when you rip your mp2, i suggest 192Kbps @44100Hz... just as good quality as cd standard and will play nicely on every sound system i am sure you will use

ok, i had a look at both programs, and they are quite the same, except for the fact that T&R isnt free

they both do batch file editing, and that is great!

but i think i solved my "problem":

i wanted to have the "feat. bla bla bla" part in the title , but now i realize that is just nonsense [i wanted to do that for my iPod], because i could just make playlists XD

and i do the filerenaming [external] with File Renamer Basic and Rename

in combination, these programs fullfill all my needs for file names

for the MP3 tag editing i use AudioShell {for batch editing, like album, artist, year, etc.} and Power MP3 WMA Converter {for unique editing, like featured artists, title, track}

i will definitly check out Tag&Rename, since its from the same authors as Audioshell, which is really great[and because it has the online music database for filling-in MP3 tags]
