poundhound
Hello all,I have recently updated my mothers pc to service pack 2. It took a while to load so left it with her to close down so am not sure of her procedure. The problem is that after the sign-on the pc loads the settings but does nothing else, just a picture of the desktop background. Its as if the startup has lost the comands needed to start explorer and therefore show the bottom start bar and any desktop icons.#It is possible to start some programs using ctrl alt delete to get task manager and start new task but I have no idea how I can get it to start explorer (or even for that matter if it will!)Has anyone got any fixing suggestions?I know the xp software is already installed on the hard drive (so no instal disk) and am completely unsure how I can even format the hard drive and re-load the original software (even if it means losing all other data - its worth it to get the pc back!). Can this be done at the bios? many thanksken

ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
But don't give up on SP2 - it bring many important security fixes to Windows XP.It is very important that you carefully check the computer for malware before installing SP2. Viruses, trojans, spyware - all can have disastrous effects when installing SP2. Most likely Windows will no longer run if SP2 was installed with malware present.
