I had a single user account and did not need to log in to the computer. One fine morning I find that the Turn off Computer icon has vanished from the start menu! Moreover, I cant press ctrl+alt+del to start the task manager, it says "Task Manager has been disabled by your Administrater". Same is the case with "Run" command, so I cant run any programs like Regedit etc. My account was an administrator account with full privileges, but it got changed to a debugger account.I created another user account with administrator rights, logged into that account and changed the properties of my original account to full administrative account, but when I logged back on to my old account, I still find that the situation is still the same. The only way I can switch off my computer is by logging off, and then selecting the Turn Off option in the logoff screen, which is tedious and of course irritating.Can someone please suggest some remedy for this problem?A lot of thanks in advance. I like clean, healthy and friendly approach to this kind of interaction. Instead of "assuming" things, you should ask to the point questions that helps clarify the matter. If you had made an assumption that I don't have a full backup because of the fact that I had posted the question here, then why ask such a silly question? If I had a full system backup, I would'nt have come to this forum. I am sensible enough to use a full backup to restore my system to its original condition. Moreover, system restore in Windows is a flimsy program. Though it does help sometimes, most of the times it does'nt do much good. And lastly, I wanted to resolve the problem without using backup software because I had recently installed a number of programs which I would have lost if I used system restore!I hope to end this argument here so that it does'nt sour further.Bye.... trackrat Posted July 8, 2007 Report Share Posted July 8, 2007 If you have a full XP Pro CD or an OEM one, the answer might be to do a repair install.There is an excellent guide to doing it here,http://www.windowsforum.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=10455 and you will not lose any files or folders, all you will have to do after the repair install is download the Microsoft updates again. They pretty good.I am running BitDefender Internet Security 10 but, let us say, every month or two I run full system scans with both of them.And they're FREE!!!Hope this helps.
