Lemmy
I swapped out the motherboard from my 2 yr old compaq Presario ADM64 3300+, with XP home. The machine will boot up into live linux CD and seems to be working fine. However, I am unable to reinstall the OS either from my recovery CD's or the recovery partition in the HD. Screens are as follows:1) black screen with text "loading compaq recovery"2) Black screen with red compaq logo3) blue screen indicating "error was encountered", "windows is shutting down to prevent damage... " etc. and a long code. The machine is three weeks out of warranty (of course) and one time tech support is $49. Is there any simple fix to this, or will I need to find get a *real* XP install disk (?)I would think I should e able to legally use any other XP home desk with my own activation code to restore my system .Thanks
-pops-
The recovery disk and the recovery partition on the HD are probably tattooed to the BIOS of the original M/B.
Alan2273
If you have a legal activation code then borrow an XP disk to do the install and use your activation code. if it fails phone Microsoft and explain what has happened and they should give you another code.
