yvonnet
I have an external HDD which has been working fine with no problems until earlier today when I received this message:USB Device Not RecognizedI assumed that my HDD was at fault until I tried my memory stick and received the same message so it would appear that my USB ports are playing up?I have tried the memory stick and the HDD in two different USB ports and still receive the same error message - help!(Both the HDD and the memory stick work perfectly and are recognized when I plug them into my laptop)

-pops-
This is a common occurrence if you disconnect your USB device (especially drives) by "pulling the plug" instead of the correct "Safely Remove Hardware" feature in the Sys Tray.If it doesn't correct itself on a reboot, it means that the USB port has irreparably failed. Fortunately, if this is a desktop machine, it is easy to add a USB PCI card with more ports/connectors.

-pops-
Make sure you get a card with plenty of ports on it - you can't have too many USB connectors! :)
