Lan connection dead, computer user dying

Recommended Posts

I've barely slept in three days. My back hurts. I'm losing my eyesight. I have to fix this problem. I feel like A 5 year old child trying to kill a bull elephant with his bare hands.

Recently, my brother and I put together a nice little computer with an asus striker extreme motherboard, intel quad core processor, and nvidia 8800 graphics card. We had a few booting problems, but eventually got it up and running. We installed windows XP pro 64X on it, and proceeded to set up the drivers. All of this went smoothly. We installed the GRAW cd that came with the motherboard to test out the setup. It was smooth.

Then I plugged in the ethernet cord, and all hades broke loose.

The lan was unresponsive. Neither of the dual ethernet ports on the motherboard would recognize our motorola sb5120, and the orange light on the modem remained silent. Of course the usb wouldn't work, because there are no 64x drivers for the modem.

We thought it was a simple error. something easiy fixed. How wrong we were. Tried a different cable. Tested the modem on another computer. Works fine. Pinged 127.0.0.1. Turned off modem for five minutes then powered it up. Turned off computer and modem and started them together. Nothing. Disabled one connection in XP and bios. reinstalled ethernet drivers. Performed percussional maintainace. Changed every setting having anything to do with anything that sounds like Networking. Went to every tech forum, read every topic. Asked my ISP. Asked my Hardware provider. Nothing. Nothing. Nothing.

It's getting crazy. I can't really see that well right now, so please excuse my spelling errors.

Without internet, this computer, indeed, every penny I've spent, is useless to me. Please help me.

Please don't let me die in this chair. Anything, any advice at all. I don't care if you're guessing. Just please tell me something.

If you suggest I fly the computer into the center of the sun and back, I'll do it. Just please, help. I'm begging you.

I'm going to give a list of things you might have done or might haven't

1. have you tried to see if you get an ip ipconfig/all

2. have you tried another modem

3.have you checked your antivirus to see if it is blocking it (if you have any)

4. have you checked if the jack is any good... the part you plug the cable into

5. is it dial up or do you have dsl... ect.

let me know what you find out.

1. When I ipconfig it it tells me It's in a media disconnected state.

2. The modem works fine. (I'm using it right now)

3. All firewalls are off.

4. I really don't know. But knowing it's a brand new motherboard and every single other part of it is working perfectly, I hadn't considered it.

5. I have cable internet, Modem is a motorola sb5120.

With all due respect, I think this thread would have gained more attention if it hadn't been written in such florid and obtuse prose.

On any other forum, at any other time, I would break out into a post of intense sarcasm and condesendence, but I'm too desparate for help and too tired to do that.

If it's not too much to ask, please read my post and try to help me. Please.

PROBLEM SOLVED!

I found out that our modem wasn't working.

We got a new modem for a few bucks from wal mart, and hooked it up. Still wouldn't let us connect. Called my isp tonight and they hooked us right up. We're smooth from here on out, and I can finally sleep again. Thanks for helping, guys.
