Forced Shutdown

i would like to know something:

does it matter [for the health of your computer] if you shutdown using the normal shutdown, or using the Forced Application Shutdown?

with the Forced Application shutdown i mean a for of shutdown which alsmost immediately shuts down your computer, which is lots of faster than the normal shutdown sequence

if that accelerates my shutdown, that would be great, but what values should those entries have?

They are all probably a time limit before it is forced to shut down. (time is always defined in milliseconds in the registry)

For example, my WaitToKillServiceTimeout is 20000 milliseconds (20 seconds)

Also, I do not recommend using forced shutdown methods, as most programs require time to finish their termination procedures. If you find you are having problems with a program shutting down, or constantly hanging there may be a better solution that forcing it.

well, my computer usually takes very long to shut down [after leaving it on for a long while]

and i usually get a warning about the zlclient.exe from ZoneAlarm Pro [latest version]... that might cause a delay to the shutdown

any way to solve it?

Can you not end the process in Windows Task Manager just before shutting down the PC?

In that case I'm not sure what to do as I don't think you can force ZoneAlarm to shutdown quicker?

Having said this there may be a registry entry somewhere that controls how long that particular process takes to shut down?

i dont think the ZoneAlarm shutdown takes too long, but it isnt done: else you wouldnt get the End Program: zlclient.exe windows

That happens when the program did not close in the time alloted by Windows for a program to complete the kill cycle. It could be that ZoneAlarm is working on something at the time, or it could be that ZoneAlarm is not working at all. In any case, you should try uninstalling it and reinstalling it to see if that has any effect. You may also want to look into alternative firewalls if ZoneAlarm is causing problems.

i never had any problem with zonealarm, and it protects me very well

it seems, that after installing the latest version, the problem was solved

kinda weird though: it didnt update from itself: i thought it was strange it didnt update for such a long while, so i went to the ZA website and downloaded and installed the latest version of ZA...
