marc99 Posted September 11, 2007 Report Share Posted September 11, 2007 Somehow or other I am now unable to open pdf files with Adobe Reader 8 by double clicking on them from explorer or via right-click by 'open with'. I get the message (XP Pro): 'windows cannot open the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access them'. I get this message on every pdf file whether on my hard drive (either partition) or on a product cd no matter what the permissions are.I can't open them from with Reader eitherHowever:- pdf files are associated with reader 8- I am logged on as administrator- the files have full administrator and system permissionsI reinstalled Reader but that hasn't made any difference.Before the reinstall, I could open pdf's via right-click 'open with' and from within Reader itself (but not via direct Explorer double click) but after the reinstall I can't open them at all.Other file types are okAny ideas what's causing this and how to fix?tiaMarc Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

However, I'm 'sure' the problem has arisen due to some setting or configuration parameter getting changed or corrupted and that is what I would really like to understand (lest it happen to other file types...).Marc Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
