My Xp has gone mad

Hi . I am a newbie and desperately seeking help from the kind experts here.

Last sunday, I installed a new harddisk drive to my notebook. The HP Recovery CD & Driver CD were used to reload XP Pro. It was then followed by a lenghty Windows update.

Here comes the problem. These 2 days, Win Explorer simply refuses to cooperate. it refuses to allow me to explore my folders, attach emails and even to the point of shutting down the 3rd party app that I was using, incl Outlook, forcing a reboot of the app. I had reinstall MS Office 2003, IE7 + updates. Attached is the list of the updates that I had done in these past days....

The Error Signature as as follows (copied longhand) :

App name : explorer.exe

app ver : 6.0.2900.3156

modname: mpegsplitter.ax

modifier 1.0.04

offset 000270ab

I am using Win XP Pro on a HP Compaq NC6000 notebook.

I am at a loss of what to do.
