julie8548 Posted September 24, 2007 Report Share Posted September 24, 2007 I have an XPS 400 AND Since the day I got my computer my system restore has never worked. If I go to use it ,it always tells me system restore incomplete. I have talked to Dell about it and they said that maybe Windows was not installed correctly and it could be corrupt. Can this cause this problem? I have shut the system restore off and restarted my computer like they said to do. Then it will work one time than it goes back where it will say system restore incomplete. How can I fix it to work anytime I need it? -pops- Posted September 24, 2007 Report Share Posted September 24, 2007 Not a direct answer but, I gave up using System Restore long ago as I found it temperamental and unreliable - as have lots of others.What I do instead is make regular full system backups to a separate drive using Acronis and also keep a constantly (every 2 hours) updating record of the My Documents folder using Second Copy.This way I get a much more recent (never more than 2 hours out of date) retained record of my important files - you can use Second Copy to copy and store anything you want.Second copy is available click here on a thirty day fully functional free trial. If it were my computer and it was giving problems from day one, I would demand that Dell reinstall Windows if they claim that it was not installed correctly, and was possibly corrupt. System Restore is considered to be an unauthorized applications and Symantec will cause the system restore to fail.Nice feature, having the registry and processed locked, but "System Restore is considered to be an unauthorized application" .... It was my Symantec. I followed all the instructions and it fixed my problem.I have been trying to find the reason it didn't work for a year.
