From your post it suggests you have a desktop PC to which is connected a router (by ethernet cable..?) and separately a laptop which presumably you wish to connect by wireless.

Please confirm that this is the case and provide as much information as possible about your systems - operating system on each computer, type of router, connections, etc. so that one of our experienced members can offer advice.

yes this is the case as far as i can make out. my desktop pc is windows xp and my laptop is vista. the router i have is by Belkin and is 54 mbps.

it is all connected and my desktop has recognised this. i am on the internet site i was told to go to to configure my router and it is saying there is no internet connection. my laptop can find my wireless connection but can not connect to it.

Does the documentation for your router explicitly state that it is supported by Vista? If not, can you try to find the appropriate Vista drivers on the manufacturer's download site?

Also, have you followed the instructions for the installation correctly, step by step? For instance, most hardware devices need to have the device drivers installed before the device is actually connected to the computer.

Finally, you cannot connect to the Internet before you have configured your router. This is usually done via web browser (Internet Explorer), connecting to the router via an internal network address - something like http://192.168.0.1/ or similar.

I have a belkin 54m system, the login page is 192.168.2.1 , I assume from

i am on the internet site i was told to go to to configure my router and it is saying there is no internet connection.
that you have successfully reached this page where it then tells you the internet is not connected?

Do you connect via a cable modem or an adsl modem?

If it's a cable modem have you powered down the modem before connecting your router?

If not, power down the modem, router and pc, then restart the modem, the router then the pc.

If it's a combined adsl/router modem it will need configuring with your login details for your ISP.

Once you've established the internet is connected we can then work on connecting the laptop wirelessly
