andsome
You have given no specifics. ISP, operating system, memory, Ram, claimed speed from the ISP, and your actual speed obtained, etc etc. Have you run any cleaners such as C Cleaner to get rid of dross? Have you run any Anti Malware programs? :D

CurlyWhirly
my computer is running quite fast, its just the broadbandI know that your with Virgin Media but is it the cable or the ADSL service? If it's the ADSL service then the network is heavily congested as I see loads of people complaining on various broadband forums including thinkbroadband.comThe cable service will only slow down at peak times and this will only happen if your using a lot of bandwidth at these peak times. CurlyWhirly
http://www.dslzoneuk.net/isp_ratings.php#Scroll down to the comment section on 29 and see the comments about the congested network (it's not Virgin's cable service)

trackrat
I am having a lot of trouble with Virgin cable at the moment, one minute it is flying the next time it is giving time out errors.I rang there 0906 number and they tried all sorts for 20 minutes, then they cut me off and rang back to do some more tests which took 50 minutes. This is the second time in 3 days this has happened. They tested out my computer and my brothers which runs Linux and decided the fault was at there end, so the cost of the call was negated. This is the second time in 3 days I have had to phone them with this problem.I have been with cable for seven years and this is the first time I have had a problem. If you are having the same problems get in touch with them.It was quite funny when they checked the Linux computer as he did not know what commands to run, my brother had to tell him.Try this, click start, click run, type cmd in the box, click enter. In the command box type ipconfig /all hit the enter button, then enter ping (space) and your IP address (something like 192.168.0.194), look at the results for the average ping time, it should be below 30ms. andsome
Virgin of course is run by different Franchise companies in different areas. So no two areas may definitely be the same. :D
