deuces wild Posted December 21, 2007 Report Share Posted December 21, 2007 My wife and I gave our son a laptop computer as a graduation gift (graduating from USMC boot camp) as he would be able to use it to communicate with us, watch movies and play games on it during whatever free time he has.The computer has a Dell wireless 1490 802 11 a/g mini card. AlanHo Posted December 21, 2007 Report Share Posted December 21, 2007 I am ever so tempted to say RTFM or google the answer - but I won't........................ :lol: :lol: :lol: My Dell laptop has the same feature and connects with my home wireless network, wireless hot spots at hotels, public places, Starbucks etc and wireless networks my careless neighbours leave open without security. Your son will only be able to connect to the internet at wireless hotspots if he has an account with a wireless network provider like T Mobile etc. I have an account with British Telecom and rather than pay a set monthly fee I am on a pay as you use tarriff. In the Uk the main ones seem to be BT and T Mobile - but there are many others. Each provider operates hot spots around the country - I have T Mobile and BT on my laptop to give me flexibility because most hotels, public places or restaurants generally provide one or the other.A recent holiday in the USA found the T Mobile service most useful.Your son will need to determine which is the best hot spot supplier for the Country and town he is in.
