kurt_f
A statue of the infant Jesus on display near Miami in Florida is being fitted with a Global Positioning System device after the original figurine was stolen. The near-life-size figure forms part of a nativity scene in Bal Harbour. The original vanished three weeks ago, despite being bolted to the ground. Dina Cellini, who oversees the display, says the statues of Mary and Joseph will also be fitted with a satellite tracking device to deter thieves. She said: "I don't anticipate this will ever happen again, but we may need to rely on technology to save our saviour." A Jewish lawyer, Jeffrey Harris, from Cincinnati, who read about the theft on the internet, has donated the new Jesus figurine in the Founders Circle area of the city. Mr Harris, who celebrates Hanukkah, not Christmas, told the Miami Herald: ''I felt bad. How could someone steal a baby Jesus? Even though I am Jewish, I like the Christmas spirit.'' joysness
The same thing happened here in my neighborhood. At two homes on the same street, someone stole the baby Jesus figures from their Nativity displays and replaced them with real severed pigs heads.Showed it on the news and it was just awful. One of the families had to take their's down because their young daughter became so distraught after seeing it.The other family has replaced the baby Jesus figure and a Jewish attorney from back east (perhaps the same one as the gentleman above) has sent them GPS tracking devices for all of the statues and paid for plexiglass to be installed to protect the display. The families were unaware of the situation until they started getting calls from neighbors telling them how awful they were for putting up such a display. It was all quite sad really. As old as I am, I'm still sometimes surprised at how horrible some people can be.The police say if they find the perpetraitor(s), they could face jail time as it is being considered a hate crime and that is a felony here.
