Freckleton St. Bridge

There is a bridge with exactly the same structure across the M42 near junction 4 which carries traffic to a new industrial park. It was erected about 4 years ago.

The bridge was built to one side of the motorway and "slid" across in one piece in just a few hours to minimise motorway closure. As a retired engineer I found it interesting and stayed up that night to watch it being done.

The safety and engineering considerations of modern bridge design always confers wonderful elegance to the structure - this one included.

For the ultimate, though, look at the Millau Viaduct in France.

The Pont Neuf in France is very good too. I believe Alan once posted a picture of it, though I may be wrong.
