Change XP language

Hi all,

I have recently bought a Chinese DELL laptop from China and chinese windows was pre-installed on it. I was wondering if I could change the language without formatting. If this can't be done, then how would I format my computer? Thanks

I remember reading a similar question and a poster suggested purchasing and installing the MS MUI pack:

The MUI pack can only be applied to the basic English version of Windows. With the Chinese version of Windows you must install a fresh English Windows, after formatting your HD (it cannot be installed "over" the installed Chinese Windows).

If this can't be done, then how would I format my computer?

To format:

put English windows disk in drive

restart computer

Press F12 when computer starts up

select your cd or dvd drive

go through the options until it asks you what partition that you want to install windows on

delete the partition(there should only be 1)

make a new partition (format 2 ntfs)

then just let the installation carry on, the rest of the options are pretty self-explanatory

I would recommend creating two or three partitions.

On the first one put the OS and put your data on the other(s). You can move "my documents" to the second partition. If you ever need to reformat your files will be safe.

Good suggestion! You (the original poster) can even install the English Windows version while you still keep the Chinese version. This could help you if you run into any drivers' problems.
