ev0l
Okay well I've been to 2 forums already neither of them has decided to post anything helping me so im moving on. Because i don't know if the longer i wait the worse it gets so I need help like as fast as possible. every now and then my desktop icons will disappear same with my task bar and start menu. The task manager is the only way to use programs when this happens i have to restart to get everything back sometimes it takes several restart. I've done a little research and from what i've seen it has to do with explorer.exe everyone said. so I opened event viewer and waited once it happend it logged the problems which i will be below, Explorer.exe dissapears when the problem happens but before the problem its quietly waiting in my task manager. so im not to sure what to do. Here is the logs of the events it recorder in errors. It happend once and i had to restart then it did it again but everything came back thats why the errors show up twice.Take not that the ones bolded are the ones that happend at the same time which is believe to be the main issued ones. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Welcome to the Windows Forum. The first thing we will need to check is if your system is clean of malware.Do you have an active firewall?Do you have an up-to-date antivirus software installed?Do you have any anti-spyware applications?Even if you reply "yes" to all of above, we have to make sure that your system is not infected. Please go to Trendmicro Housecall and run a full scan. Be sure to use v6.6 if you're on Vista.

-pops-
sfdrv01 is a driver associated with StarForce and as it is incompatible with the Windows version you are using, it should be removed, together with all associated software.BrSplService is a spooler associated with a Brother printer. If you have a Brother printer installed, delete it in the correct manner. If you have had a Brother printer installed but no longer do so or you are unaware where the spooler came from, check this http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-386481.php
ev0l
Thats for that update I'll check into deleting the brother printer thing, I did have one but no more, I did uninstall it but it might have been mest up while uninstalling. -pops-
The i8042prt subkey stores data for the i8042prt driver. The i8042prt driver controls the keyboard and PS/2-compatible mouse for the Intel 8042 controller. Check this out http://www.file.net/process/i8042prt.sys.htmlsptd check this http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/sptd-13477.htmlBe careful and do more checks before carrying out any of the recommendations in the links I have given. ev0l
eh so i understand that the i8042prt has to do with keyboards and mousesso if i was to delete/fix what ever is needed to it that my keyboard or mouse may not work right?and the sptd thing still not to sure what it does it said something about it needs to be in startup obviously its important so if its mest up or i mess it up things could be bad? -pops-
To get all your Windows files and dlls working correctly the safest thing is to use the system file checker. For XP see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310747In Vista look at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833
ev0l
Before i got around to doing that I had ran uniblue registery booster 2 which found 900 some off reg errors some of which where explorer.exe it fixed all of them if you wish for me to post it i will but its quiet long after fixing them i rebooted and then rescreashed again and found one which is Scanning Date 1/16/2008 1:20:48 AM Entries Found 4 Entries Deleted 4 Entries HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\microsoft\windows\currentVersion\explorer\fileexts\.kdc HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\microsoft\windows\currentVersion\explorer\fileexts\.mix HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\microsoft\windows\currentVersion\explorer\fileexts\.ogg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Brother XP spl Service I rebooted and scanned again it fixed the errors which included one i posted above the brsplserive it no longer shows in the event view as a start up error like all the other times id reboot. same for i8042prt. it was fixed. Scanning Date 1/16/2008 1:31:12 AM Entries Found 1 Entries Deleted 1 Entries HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\microsoft\windows\currentVersion\explorer\fileexts\DDECache which it fixed then i rebooted and scanned again Scanning Date 1/16/2008 1:45:58 AM Entries Found 19 Entries Deleted 19 Entries HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\microsoft\windows\currentVersion\explorer\fileexts\DDECache HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\microsoft\windows\currentVersion\explorer\fileexts\OpenWithList HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{885BB46A-3F1E-44C3-A01B-A7D9260CC98B}\LocalServer32 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDlls HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDlls HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDlls HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MyWebEx\MWM HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Pegasys Inc.\DivX Author 1.5\ClipEdit HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Pegasys Inc.\DivX Author 1.5\ClipEdit\Display HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Pegasys Inc.\DivX Author 1.5\Project HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Pegasys Inc.\DivX Author 1.5\Project HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Pegasys Inc.\DivX Author 1.5\SlideShow HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Pegasys Inc.\DivX Author 1.5\SlideShow HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Pegasys Inc.\DivX Author 1.5\Wizard HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MMC\SnapIns\FX:{b05566ad-fe9c-4363-be05-7a4cbb7cb510} HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MMC\SnapIns\FX:{b05566ad-fe9c-4363-be05-7a4cbb7cb510} HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MMC\SnapIns\FX:{b05566ae-fe9c-4363-be05-7a4cbb7cb510} HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MMC\SnapIns\FX:{b05566ae-fe9c-4363-be05-7a4cbb7cb510} but now its found none after rebooting. Im going to try your method now to fix what ever else may be wrong if you still think it needs to be checked that way most of which the errors in my reg have been fixed atleast ones iv taken note of but my desktop and icons still disapear. after rebooting it no longer happens on random intervals like before. When i reboot it will take away the desktop and task bar leaving me with the task manager as the only thing able to open programs i can still see my wallpaper. But i go down in task manager to the botto mand find winlogon.exe I end process on it and it logs me back out. I log back in and the desktop will disappear and reappear instead of staying gone. Another thing i notice is when I run event viewer after nothing between the last error and the current time show anything with explorer.exe the only newest error between the last and the current time is a Sptd.exe error which says in the detail in event viewer "drivers dected an internal error in its data structures for." and thats it also in the last hour there has been 4 volume shadow copy service errors not sure what they are so not to sure what thos are.The last actual explorer.exe error that shows up was on the 14th and the details for that in the event viewer reads "The Windows logon process has failed to spawn a user application. Application name: . Command line parameters: Explorer.exe."so im stumped a little fixed a few things but still not the major problem :/
-pops-
Have you run the System File checker as in my 9-13 post?
ev0l
yes but its a bit confusing i got to the logs where i can view them in c:/windows/logs/cbs/cbs.logs should i post them in here? to show you or am i supposed to edit them? >_< cause whn i got to this part3. Type the following command, and then press ENTER:edit sfcdetails.txtThe Sfcdetails.txt file uses the following format:Date/Time SFC detailit got a bit confusing iono if i can mess things up if i did it wrong >_<
-pops-
System file checker should repair any corrupt Windows files for you, not produce a report. The results you have obtained are somewhat confusing to me. I am not very familiar with Vista so can you hold for a while until someone more expert comes along?
AlanHo
My recommendation would be to back up all your data and settings to suitable media - ideally an external USB drive - then do a reformat and clean install of Vista and your programmes from scratch.I may take possibly 3 to 4 hours but is a certain cure. You could easily spend many more hours than this trying various solutions. I would then buy a copy of Acronis and take a full backup of your nice clean unpolluted system onto the USB drive, and take regular weekly backups, so your system can be easily and quickly restored in future. ev0l
so there is like no other way? i dont want to have to clean install vista unless its like my only option. the thing pops was telling me came to like a blue screen i dont know what to do after that
ev0l
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833 I do what it is told me to do. findstr /C:"[sR] Cannot repair member file" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txtI typ this and nothing happens. so then i type edit sfcdetails.txt The command prompt window turns blue no text but a flashing _ button. there is options at the top such as file, edit, search blah blah. At this point im just lost i don't know what to do. Because I don't understand the website that much not to mention it dont tell me what files are mest up so im not sure if im supposed to put in ones that are.
