This extract backs up what I said recently about Nod 32 new security suite.

ESET Smart Security

The suite adds a firewall and spam filter to a new version of NOD32. I recently tested a beta version (http://www.techsupportalert.com/review-ese...urity-suite.php ) and felt that ESS had set a benchmark for design, simplicity and slick operation. John Hawes at Virus Bulletin said this in the conclusion of his review:

"As vendors release their latest 2008 product ranges, the addition of new supplementary modules seems to be all the rage, most suites now sprawling with diverse functionality, often at the expense of user-friendliness and occasionally posing dangers of their own.

“ESET has resisted the temptation to sprinkle in too many extras, focusing instead on the core requirements of a security system. Covering all the essential bases with a smoothly integrated set of protective barriers, the combination of top-of-the-range detection, response time, heuristics and throughput with excellent presentation and design will make Smart Security pretty hard to beat.

It is also noticeable that AVG, frequently recommended on here does not fare too well.

Hello danieljoseph. These magazine articles are saying that Norton/Symantec products, though very good and genuine, have some big disadvantages, such as being very large, slow and difficult to uninstall.

Nod32 has none of those disadvantages, but you have to pay for it.

Adaware alert is condemned by many people as they say it installs its own malware on your computer.

If its protection from spyware and adware that you want then Ad-Aware from Lavasoft is excellent. It's free of malware and is used by many experienced members of this forum. There is a free version which you can get here (that's the Lavasoft site).

Many members (including me) also use Spybot Search & Destroy for protection against spyware, adware & malware. You can get it from Safer-Networking here.

Note that these last 2 products are not anti-virus products. :flowers:
