Problem with new pc

Recommended Posts

today I started putting together my new pc from the parts I recently bought, but a problem has occured:

when i turn on the computer, my monitor shows: no signal [i tried all the ports on my graphics cards, and waited a while every time, but nothing happened.]

this are the parts from my computer:

Motherboard: Asus P5N32-E SLI

Memory: OCZ Reaper 4 GB PC6400 CL4-4-4-15 Dual kit [compatible with motherboard]

Graphics cards: 2x nVidia GeForce 7600 GT in SLI [with included Asus SLI bridge]

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 Dualcore 3Ghz

Power supply: OCZ StealthXstream 600W

what i know:

-graphics cards work fine [im using them while typing this and gaming is also perfectly possible...]

-harddisk works perfectly [using it now]

-processor works, otherwise nothing else would work

-motherboard works: power light lights up

-all fans work

-power supply works ok: enough power: dvddrives[2] work, all fans[4] work, neon works...

what i tried:

-tested graphics cards seperately on another pc: works fine

-tested hard disk on other computer: works fine

-dvddrives work ok

-everything is properly connected, as far as we know

i would appreciate it very much if you could help me as soon as possible

thanks in advance!

Have you independently tested the RAM?

Even though the motherboard lights up, it doesn't necessarily mean that the board is OK. The M/B seems to be the only thing you haven't independently tested and, with such complex circuitry, it is fairly common that M/Bs are faulty.

As a trial, boot up with just the graphics card and one stick of memory attached to the M/B. Is there anything on the monitor?

i already tried booting with one graphics card, but that didnt work

ill try with one memory stick

i could also try switching the memory in the new computer, with the memory from my old computer

btw: you said: "boot up with just the graphics card and one stick of memory attached to the M/B", but a processor is also needed, right...?

Well, yes, a processor is required. I don't consider that as a peripheral component but an essential part in the same way as the BIOS chip with the difference that you choose the CPU yourself and not have it as a immovable fixture :)

ok

i tried:

-start with 1 new memory stick and 1 gr.card: doesnt work

-start with 1 old memory stick and 1 gr.card: doesnt work

while starting i didnt get any error beeps...

someone else said it might be the processor, how do you think about that? [the compatibility list says the M/B is compatible with this proc...]

It could be the processor but, in my experience, faulty processors are rare - I've never had one but I have had faulty motherboards.

Do you have a friendly local computer builder with a CPU testing jig?

volt meter yellow+black 12v and red+black 5v.

What about the monitor cable, is it working?

or how about the computers trying to send a signal that is at a too higher frequency, happened to me many'a times like I used to have a old CRT booted up knoppix and it's frequency was too high for my monitor to cope, but I did see the BIOS loading.
