AlanHo
I have seen lots of warnings about the use of a wrist strap, touching the case regularly, avoiding a mix of wool and nylon clothes, humidifying the room etc when working on the innards of a computer. However - I cannot recall being warned not to use magnetic tipped screwdrivers or other magnetic tools inside the case and on the motherboard.I went round to see a friend yesterday who was changing his CPU heat sink fan and he dropped a screw inside the case (he hadn't seen pops tip about blue tack). He was about to run rampant with a magnetic "finder" when I stopped him and advised him to do it the hard way. Was I being too cautious?
-pops-
Floppy disks have magnetic tracks and I have had the destruction of one demonstrated to me - but it was a very powerful magnet that was needed. Hard drives are of magnetic operation as well but these are very well shielded in a steel case so I doubt if there's a problem there.
