garrason Posted February 22, 2008 Report Share Posted February 22, 2008 I have a Sony DRX-810L external disk drive installed on my Dell PC which runs with Windows XP SP2. I have been using it as a "floppy" drive by using InCD, a somewhat hidden part of Nero6. Recently I updated to Nero8 and the Gestapo moved into my PC. Nero wants to control everything concerning video clips and the like. It took over as the default player for just about all types of files without even asking if that was OK. Finally in desperation I uninstalled Nero and lost InCD as well.Is there a decent substitution for InCD as a packet writing routine? Is there any chance Microsoft included such support in Vista? (Don't know anything about Vista.)I've read a little about "FileCD" from Nitus and "B'sCLip" from BHA Software. Both sites are honest enough to post complaints from users. They out-number those of praise which is not surprising - people will bother to complain when they won't write to say good things about a product.Does anyone have an opinion they will share? I'll look into that suggestion about Flash & Thumb. Being 97 yo (not quite but I remember when all the computers in the US were mainframes) I guess I wasn't thinking outside the box. -pops- Posted February 23, 2008 Report Share Posted February 23, 2008 I'll back the thumb drive suggestion but, ensure that before removing the drive from the USB port to use the Safely Remove Hardware function that resides in the Sys tray.There have been numerous reports both here and that I've experienced myself where these drives (and sometimes USB ports) have been destroyed by injudicious plugging/unplugging them whilst they are operating (which might not be apparent). That aside, these devices are far, far better than packet writing software and the inherent unreliability of rewritable optical disks. I am retired and 2 2-GB flash files costs as much as a whole pack of 4.7-GB reusable disks.Apparently no one has an opinion on other packet writing software? I thought it was possible to find someone with an opinion of just about everything.
