Xylob Posted February 23, 2008 Report Share Posted February 23, 2008 I'm having an issue with my HTPC and have found some error messages in the Event Viewer.I do not know if the two things are related or not, as I can't find much info....My HTPC randomly crashes/reboots.Sometimes it happens under 'heavy load'.Sometimes it happens when the system is basically idle.I have error reporting turned on, so every time it reboots it asks me if I want to send a report. I say yes and when it's done it opens an internet page that says "This problem was caused by a device driver. Does this information help you?".NO!! It doesn't freakin' help me... Which driver? rolleyes.gif There's only a couple hundred... Plus, all of my drivers are signed by Micro$oft, so they should all be just fine and dandy. Right? They wouldn't "bless" a bad driver...Is there some sort of a log or file buried deep down inside of XP that I can look at to see which freakin' driver is causing this problem? I was hoping that the Event Viewer could shed some light on the problem, but...I got nothin'!Can somebody point me to a good site with definitions for XP error codes?I've searched repeatedly using Google, Jeeves, and Yahoo and found tons of sites/pages that talk about XP error codes, but none have any information on the error codes I have gotten...In fact, most of the sites seem to have been copy/pasted from one another.I even tried searching the actual error codes I have and got nothing.Or, if you are a magical elf from Micro$oft and can read their language, my errors are as follows:Error code 10000050, parameter1 8b23b128, parameter2 00000000, parameter3 f7b725d0, parameter4 00000000.Error code 1000000a, parameter1 c1010490, parameter2 00000001, parameter3 00000000, parameter4 804e70d5.TIA! Good those error codes aint they.There is such a wide variety of things that can cause an operating system to crash that it is like looking for a needle in a haystack sometimes.Although you get drivers from a reliable source even they can become corrupted. Gonna make a few suggestions. You have got to make a start somewhere in hunting this down, and it can be a process of elimination. You will hopefully see more results from this than trying to hunt down error codes.DEFRAG - DISK CLEANER -CHKDSK- REMOVE UNWANTED PROGRAMS They are all things you can do from within Windows.Download and install: ***EASY CLEANER*** (This is free) you can use everything in there to have a good cleanup of registry etc: Do not click on duplicates !. Everthing else is very safe.Download and install: ***REGISTRY DEFRAG TOOL*** (Again free)Have you thought about using System Restore to get back to a time when the computer was ok ?Try to eliminate things one by one. When it is all up and running ok again think of investing in Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image for the future. Saves a whole lot of time. Xylob Posted February 24, 2008 Author Report Share Posted February 24, 2008 I defrag regularly and use MS's disk cleaner (cleanmgr.exe) once a week and have uninstalled all programs that I don't want/need.I also regularly clean and defrag my registry with a variety of tools and even defrag my page file when needed.System restore won't do much as this has always been an issue on this particular PC. I have reformatted the hard drive (as well as replaced the C drive) and re-installed XP at least 3 times on this particular machine. I'm thinking it could be a hardware conflict(???), especially since it's always a "device driver" message.I'll check that link for the error code info I rene posted and hopefully it will shed some light.thanks guys and keep the info coming! The info Event Viewer is giving me looks nothing like what's on that page.... Different "format", different character pattern, different number of characters.C'est la vie.Thanks anyway. Sign up on the relevant forum, and ask away.On the opening page there is a "Search box" type error codes in there and see what it comes back with.Hope this has been of some help.
