Big problem XP logon

Right, i've been silly. I've recently become interested in personalising a few things on Windows. I use StyleXP to change themes and such. I found some pretty nice Logon pages, but I decided to design my own. I used Resources Hacker to open a copy of a logon file, let's just call it "logonui.exe" (the original xp logon file) and I successfully changed the background BMP image. The button which says "Turn off again" or "shutdown" on the screen where you log in was in the way of my design so I tried looking at the UI code and tried to change the position of it. I found a bit I thought might be the part to change it, and I changed a word "left" to "bottomleft". It was on a line in the bottom section. The only things I can remember it saying was "(power) ........left......(11)" these are the only things I can remember from the line of code i changed.

When I turn my PC on it gets up to the part where I should see the log on page, but this Parser Message appears instead:

"Invalid enumeration value: 'bottomleft' at line 573"

This is the part I typed in...obviously.

Now I know I need to change that bit of code back to the original, BUT I cannot get past this message to access Windows, Not even in safe mode!!

(I am on my brothers PC right now)

Is there anything I can do or is it the end of my PC?

I sure hope someone can help, I'm lost without my PC!

Sounds like a format and re installation of Windows is called for. You will need the installation disc which should have been supplied with the computer. :D

I would wait for others to reply before a reinstall, you could try a repair though

The first thing I would try is to boot into Last Known Good Configuration; see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307852

If that doesn't help, try a System Restore; see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306084

Next time, before starting making changes to your system, be sure to make a backup!

Thanks. I've tried opening in Safe mode, and I've tried system restore. None has worked. Safe mode with command prompt also doesn't work. Each seem to lead to the log in page, which I broke! Well it looks like it's a re-installation then, which is no big deal, I'd like a fresh start anyway... lol.

Will inserting the Windows installation disc enable the formatting process before re-installing it? Because I can't format from Windows as i obviously can't access it?

aha. I was just explaining the problem to my Dad when i was showing the error message to him. I was clicking ok over and over showing him that the mesage just reappears, then i clicked the [x] about 5 times and on the fifth or sixth time the screen went black and then windows started up! So I seem to be ok now, I just have to change the bit of code back to normal! Phew... Thanks for all your help anyway :)

If it happens again , hold down ctrl and alt and then press delete twice , it will take you to a classic logon screen , you can then logon and change the code to it's original state.
