It sounds like one of your installed programs is set to automatically run every hour.

When it happens bring up task manager (Control/Alt/Delete) and see what processes are running.

The only time I have seen that happen (but not on the hour) is with an antivirus program.

i use AVG anti virus, Zone alarm Firewall/anti spyware

other that that there isnt anything unusal running in the task manager, 7 svhosts, (aavgamsvr.exevg, avgcc.exe, avgupsvc.exe- AVG stuff), tcpsvcs.exe, vsmon, winlogon, csrss.exe and my epson printer software
