She lives in Sete, in France, and so dear old dad gets problems by phone. The current one is a corker.She rang a few days ago saying the machine had slowed down and so I suggester she get rid of all her old emals etc Which she did. It did not speeded up to her satisfaction, so I suggested she switch off AVG and defragged. Which she did. She said it was quite a lot better but not as good as it used to be, and it had taken an awful long time to defrag.... she went to bed and left it to it!So I suggested she download Crapcleaner and run that, and after that had finished run its registry tool (I have always found it works quickly and apparently efficiently)I have just had a 'phone call to say that M$ registry cleaner is getting partway through and then hanging. Switching off and rebooting just starts up with M$ registry cleaner again. Ctrl/Alt/Del is similarly ineffective. I have no knowledge of M$ registry cleaner and its quirky ways, and I do not understand how she came to the conclusion that M$ registry cleaner was the one she should use.(....it's not as though she were blonde)Can the committee make any useful long distance suggestions please? She has already started to run M$ registry clean up and it is hanging partway through the operation and she can find no way to get out of it. catgate Posted March 25, 2008 Author Report Share Posted March 25, 2008 Latest news is that a flurry of miscellaneous key tapping has effected a method of breaking the circle. However then the problem was finding the right key to get into the bios. Del and F2 did not seem to want to oblige. So I suggested she remove the side panel and find out the name on the MB so that I could find out more about it. She did this and was suddenly aware that the the internals of the machine were mainly fluff and dust. No wonder the CPU fairy was having difficulty getting about. She got the make and model and it then I found the bios maker. We were then able to shuffle the Bootup Sequence and she is currently reloading the OS. I have never seen it doing any good. It does not save you any space. It certainly does not make your computer any faster.However, I have seen it doing lots of damage!
