windows won't start

Ok, so i have a dell e1505 w/ a 80 gb hd. It still has the factory system restore and media direct. I recently used partition magic to repartition windows xp from 70gb to 65gb so i could install ubuntu. It said i had to reboot, i did and it came up to the desktop fine. When it said i had to reboot again for hardware or something i did. It goes through all the usual stuff, the BIOS screen shows up then windows with the bars that move left to right, but then it says volume is dirty, runs chkdsk and goes into a loop saying "it is inserting an index entry into index $0 of file 14608." I have a very important term paper on here and because i'm not religious about backing up it only exists there. Is there any way i can repair this using the windows xp cd or anything?

Any help or guide to the right direction is greatly appreciated

Can you get into safe mode at all ?

if yes try the solution posted at http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt-2000-...lume-dirty.html post number 4

If you can't get into windows at all a linux live disk such as puppy linux or your ubuntu disc should enable you to recover your term paper, assuming you can gain access to other pc/cd writer to burn the iso

Thanks, but i found a forum on a linux website that helped me. I had to force mount the partition and then i gained access to the files.
