why not hav more than one firewall turned on?

Not at all! They can conflict and confuse the Windows system files, especially the Security Centre, resulting in a lock up and system crash. You may then end up with no firewall functioning. Try it if you like, but you're likely to end up with a real mess.

The only exception is to have both a hardware firewall and a software firewall that do not conflict (check with the manufacturers first). :flowers:

why not? the more the better right? but everybody wants to turn their windows firewall off

The rule is ONE firewall and ONE Anti virus. Several Anti Malware programs will usually run fine together, as long as you don't have real time protection enabled in several. :D
